Humber Bridge

Toronto, Ontario

The reconstruction of seven bridges that cross the Humber River included the redesign of the area at the mouth of the river that defines the boundaries of the cities of Etobicoke and Toronto. The design solution called for a separate bridge to link the east-west bicycle and pedestrian trails; a regeneration landscape including a heritage forest and riparian planting along the banks of the Humber River; sculptural elements to be included in the design of the main highway bridge; and large monuments which act as entry Markers. The components of the design incorporate elements and references to the first nations history in a contemporary manner.
