With the winning Ellis Don team for Ontario 3P Hospital Renewal project at Michael Garron Hospital, a high quality accessible design was approved for the New Patient Care wing and extensive related landscape of the grounds and roof terrace spaces.
The landscape design at ground level encompasses a city block within the established neighbourhood. The design proposes ample tree planting and wide walkways throughout. The entry court, event lawns flanked by convenient seating nodes and shade structures, children’s play area, and quiet staff patio are surrounded by gardens to bring seasonal interest and to encourage healing and renewal for patients, staff and caregivers.
Special roof terraces provide additional outdoor planting and programming spaces: one for staff and one for patients recovering from mental health issues. These improvements are currently under construction with installations to be completed over 2020 and 2021.
