Located in downtown Toronto in the heart of the Canadian National Exhibition grounds, the National Trade Centre contains over 1 million square feet of exhibit space. The landscape design for the convention centre includes: two large urban plazas creating forecourts to the east and west entrances to the building; integration with two adjacent historical buildings, heritage gate structure, and existing vegetation; development of a tiered streetscape along the south building elevation that fronts onto the ceremonial Prince’s Boulevard; and the design of custom light fixtures. The decorative paving, reflecting the historical shoreline of Lake Ontario, was the work of public artist Jerry Clapsaddle. Ferris + Associates were responsible for the site plan design for the Design Competition, approvals processing through the various client agencies including City of Toronto Site Plan Approval, the preparation of construction documents and contract administration.
