The North Linear Park is a four-block length of landscape designed parkland boarding the railway line in downtown Toronto meant to link Spadina Avenue with Bathurst Street. Interrupting the linear length at street intersections are public art installations and a pedestrian connection across the railway corridor to Front Street. Concord Adex opted to combine art and design efforts in this development, realizing the importance of public art and its ability to define and enhance a space. The art piece used in the North Linear Park is centered on the access of a cross street and slightly interrupts the pedestrian walkway along the park, creating an obvious and welcome tension between landscape and art. The relocation and rehabilitation of this piece represents a new partnership between the Municipality and private development. Full landscape architectural services were provided from concept/design development through working drawings and contract administration.
